Green European politician Anton Hofreiter has warned, after the coup in Syria, to take a harder stance against Syrian refugees in Germany. “It’s completely unclear how things will go on in Syria,” he said to the Funke Media Group newspapers (Monday editions), as the chairman of the European Committee in the German Bundestag.

“Considerations to change our migration policy after the fall of Assad and toughen up against Syrian asylum seekers are completely misplaced.” Hofreiter added, “The democratic process must now be pushed forward with all force. Above all, the rights of minorities in Syria must be ensured.
