A severe shooting attack occurred on a mosque in San Diego, California, leaving several people dead on Monday. According to the local police, three lives were lost during the incident. The two presumed perpetrators, aged 17 and 19, were later found dead in a nearby vehicle. Police confirmed that both individuals died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
The incident took place in the Clairemont neighborhood. The first emergency call came around 11:45 a.m. local time (2:45 p.m. German time), reporting a shooter actively firing on the grounds of the “Islamic Center of San Diego”.
During a press conference, Police Chief Scott Wahl stated that first responders arrived just four minutes after the alarm was raised. At that time, three people had already died. These victims, according to police reports, were three adults, including a mosque security guard. The guard was credited with playing a “decisive role” preventing the attack from claiming more lives.
Police noted that the violence did not remain confined to the mosque premises. Further calls reported gunfire several blocks away, where at least one person was shot. Authorities reported that the injured individual was not wounded.
