Mitsuko Shino, the Japanese Ambassador in Berlin, reaffirmed her country’s unwavering support for Ukraine. According to Shino, the message of this support is intended not only for Russia but for all nations considering violating their territorial integrity.
Speaking to the journalists from Funke Media Group, Shino emphasized that the principle of territorial integrity is fundamental to Japan as well. She drew attention to ongoing Chinese provocations in the East China Sea, where Japanese fighter jets have occasionally been tracked by Chinese radar beams. “We repeatedly ask China to cease this activity. A small misunderstanding could trigger a major accident” she warned.
When asked about balancing economic ties and escalating security tensions with China, Shino remained pragmatic. She stated that while the geography of the region cannot change, Japan and China will remain neighbors and that good neighboring requires established rules. She concluded by stressing that “territorial integrity is fundamental for all of us”.
