India Cyclone Death Toll Rises With 117 Lives Lost in Uttarakhand Downpour

According to reports from Indian media citing local authorities, at least 117 people have died in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh due to persistent rain, lightning, and thunderstorms over the past 36 to 48 hours.

The severe weather has impacted at least 19 districts, leading to reports of fatalities, substantial livestock losses, and property damage. Numerous farm animals perished amid the adverse weather, and dozens of homes were damaged by the extreme conditions.

In response to the crisis, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has instructed authorities to visit the affected areas immediately, provide aid to the victims, and ensure the swift payment of compensation.

Rescue operations are ongoing as of Thursday, and officials caution that the actual number of casualties could still increase.
