With the state election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern coming up in just four months, the AfD stands out as the clear leading force. According to an Infratest poll released by NDR on Wednesday, the AfD secured 36% of support, while the governing SPD finished in second place with 27%.
These results show positive momentum for the right-wing and center-left parties. Specifically, the AfD has managed to increase its approval rating by one percentage point compared to the January survey. The SPD also saw gains, rising two points.
However, the CDU faced a marked decline, dropping nearly from 13% in January to 10%-the worst result recorded for any single party in the state.
Other parties saw mixed fortunes. Die Linke increased its support by one point, reaching 13%, while the BSW lost ground, dropping by one percentage point to 5%. The Greens remain unchanged at 4%, a percentage that suggests they may lose their representation in the new state parliament. All other parties together account for 5% of the vote. Notably, the FDP, despite still holding a seat in the state parliament, was not individually listed in the Infratest poll results.
