Leif-Erik Holm, the AfD candidate for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, has indicated that he would support a possible minority government coalition involving the Union (CDU). According to conversations with Politico, Holm described the scenario as “a quite reasonable option” though he stressed that such support would be conditional. He added that their commitment would ultimately depend on the policies that are slated for decision.
Central to the AfD’s demands is a severe austerity measure. Holm stated they must cut spending because Germany cannot accrue further debt. Regarding finances, he insisted that the priority must be tax reduction, explicitly ruling out any increases in taxes.
Furthermore, Holm called for significant changes to the social welfare system. He argued that costs in health insurance needed to be shifted, specifying that funds necessary for supporting recipients of Citizen’s Income should not remain allocated to that purpose. Energy policy, too, required fundamental revision, as he warned that current “system costs” are becoming overwhelming.
