VfL Bochum has secured its place in the second tier of German football (2. Bundesliga) for another season. After drawing 1:1 against Hannover 96 on matchday 33, the club was unable to avoid its status in the league. Bochum currently sits in tenth place, maintaining a seven-point buffer from the relegation spots.
The German league observer SV Elversberg was also paying close attention to the matches. Had Hannover-who are currently in third place-lost to Bochum, Elversberg could have achieved direct promotion with a victory in Düsseldorf on Sunday. However, that opportunity has now vanished.
A much more significant step toward safety was made instead by 1. FC Magdeburg. The club defeated Holstein Kiel 3:1 away on Saturday afternoon, advancing to twelfth place. If either Fortuna Düsseldorf or Fürth fail to win on Sunday, Magdeburg’s status in the second league is considered definitively secured.
Meanwhile, Dynamo Dresden must continue to operate with caution. The team could have guaranteed its safety with at least a draw in Braunschweig, but instead suffered a 2:1 defeat to the hosts. This result has caused Dresden to drop to twelfth place, immediately followed by Braunschweig in fourteenth place.
