Bonita Grupp, the heir to the Trigema company, has indicated an openness to an increase in the top marginal tax rate. Speaking to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (Friday edition), the entrepreneur, who jointly runs the textile company located in Burladingen on the Swabian Alb with her brother, stated that moderating an increase in the top tax rate would be acceptable to her, provided there is offsetting relief in other areas.
Grupp emphasized that the mounting non-wage labor costs are a much larger concern. She warned that if these costs continue to rise, they will eventually become overwhelming.
Furthermore, she expressed criticism regarding the recently approved €1,000 relief bonus that employers can give to their employees. “I find it difficult when politics creates false expectations and distributes other people’s money as gifts” she commented. As of yet, it is uncertain whether Trigema will pay the tax-free bonus to its staff. “We still have to examine that closely” Grupp concluded.
