German Service Sector Sales Jump in February Outpacing January Gains

According to preliminary figures released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the service sector in Germany-excluding finance and insurance services-recorded revenue growth in February 2026 compared to January 2026. Specifically, the sector’s revenue increased by 0.3% in real terms (price-adjusted) and 0.5% in nominal terms (unadjusted).

When comparing February 2026 to the same month last year (February 2025), the total turnover saw a significant rise, increasing by 2.4% in real terms and 4.0% in nominal terms.

Comparing to the previous month, the strongest growth came from freelance, scientific, and technical services, which saw a real increase of 0.9%. The transport and warehousing sector followed with a real growth of 0.4%. The Information and Communication sector reported a real increase of 0.3% compared to January 2026. Furthermore, the Statisticians noted that the other economic services (such as renting movable goods and supplying labor) and the property and housing sector each showed a marginal growth of 0.2% compared to the prior month.
