CDU auditor Yannick Bury has argued for restricting healthcare provision for recipients of the Bürgergeld (Citizen’s Benefit) who have not been employed prior to receiving assistance. Speaking to “Focus” Bury stated that the governing coalition must primarily focus on cost reduction and should emulate the model of the former social welfare system.
He pointed to historical precedents, noting that there were always factual differences in the care provided to recipients. According to Bury, beneficiaries who were previously active in the workforce often enjoyed much more comprehensive access to health services, while others faced documented restrictions.
The CDU politician emphasized that a discussion modeled on such a system should be pursued to genuinely lower public expenditure. Bury criticized the idea that basic welfare benefits should be funded by the insured population, calling the concept wrong and unsustainable. Nonetheless, he also cautioned against merely shifting the financial burden from one governmental body to another.
