Volkswagen is reportedly considering pushing back the planned integration of its Saxon subsidiary by potentially up to two years. According to reports citing corporate sources, a decision regarding the matter is expected this Monday from the supervisory board of Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH.
A company spokesperson confirmed the delay but did not provide a new operational timeline. The corporation attributed the setback to necessary technical adjustments, particularly citing difficulties encountered during the rollout of an SAP system, though Volkswagen affirms its commitment to completing the full integration.
The merger had initially been announced in 2021 and was originally slated for completion by early 2027. Despite the delay, the company stated that there will be no material impact on the approximately 10,000 employees. Furthermore, the collective agreement for the Saxon operations has already been aligned with the main Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg since the beginning of the year.
Nevertheless, the news arrives in a sensitive operational climate. Pressure is particularly noticeable at the Zwickau plant, which has recently seen several models relocated and is currently operating under strict cost controls.
