On the 32nd matchday of the second professional football league, 1. FC Magdeburg secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Hertha BSC Berlin. The decisive goal came in the 61st minute, scored by Laurin Ulrich. Following an attempted cross from Alexander Nollenberger, which failed to evade the goalkeeper, Tjark Ernst, Ulrich managed to tap the ball into the net from close range, sliding it under the crossbar.
The first half was marked by a noticeable lack of clear scoring chances, as both teams approached the game cautiously despite the summer temperatures. While Magdeburg held a slight edge in possession, Ulrich was best chance of the half, striking the outer post with a long-range shot. Hertha finally created a solid opportunity in stoppage time, thanks to a shot from Fabian Reese, but the attempt was thwarted by Magdeburg goalkeeper Dominik Reimann.
During the second half, Hertha increased their attacking pressure, pushing hard to level the score. Fresh energy arrived in the Berlin lineup through the substitutions of Maurice Krattenmacher and Sebastian Grönning in the 68th minute. However, the Magdeburg defense held firm, with Reimann making another save in the 67th minute to deflect a dangerous shot from Marten Winkler.
As the game neared its conclusion, Hertha continued to push for the equalizer but could not create any definitive scoring chances. Magdeburg managed the narrow lead expertly, successfully securing three much-needed points in their fight to maintain their league status. Conversely, Hertha conceded another defeat, leaving them in the mid-table average.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, other results included Elversberg defeating Paderborn 5-1, Fürth and Nürnberg drawing 1-1, Karlsruhe winning against Darmstadt 2-1, and Hannover and Münster finishing in a 3-3 draw.
