Deutsche Bahn announced that it will begin offering last-minute tickets for long-distance rail travel. According to Michael Peterson, the Director of Long-Distance Services, this new comprehensive offer is designed to provide safety and affordable mobility. He explained that the initiative aims to appeal to new customer groups-individuals who might not typically consider the rail network-who value flexible travel planning.
The tickets are set to be available from May 9th. They will start at fares of €6.99, potentially supplemented by any applicable Bahncard discount. Furthermore, children are eligible to travel for free. To increase booking flexibility, customers will also be able to reserve trips for the following week when booking on Saturdays and Sundays.
Peterson noted that this program is intended to last for six months, with the option for extension afterward. The announcement also clarifies that these last-minute prices operate under the same conditions as other discounted fares: they are contingent and are only bookable on trains that have available seats. Consequently, Peterson suggests that the probability of securing a deal is particularly high during non-peak travel periods. However, the company continues to advise travelers who plan well in advance to secure their tickets early.
