Linken CoChair Ines Schwerdtner Expects Early State Election

Ines Schwerdtner, the co-chairwoman for The Left party, anticipates that early elections may be necessary. She stated during an interview with RTL/ntv on Thursday that she has lost confidence in the current federal government. When asked if she was ready for premature elections, Schwerdtner responded, “I believe we have to, because the federal government appears so divided that it can no longer even implement important individual reform steps”. She criticized the proposed budget, arguing that it was full of questionable entries and concluding that she does not see a path toward a solution. “That is why I hope it will improve through a proper process. But I have no confidence in this federal government”. Schwerdtner added that, therefore, the government was justly proving to be the most unpopular. She also leveled criticisms at CDU leader Friedrich Merz, suggesting he exaggerated the difficulty of the situation for him, given that he himself has always been privately insured throughout his life. Furthermore, she objected to the health reform being pushed through by the federal government, noting that it primarily affects those covered by statutory insurance.
