Unemployment fell slightly in April, dipping by 13,000 people to a total of 3.008 million, though this figure represents a substantial increase of 77,000 compared to the same time last year.
The overall unemployment rate remained unchanged month-over-month at 6.4%, but it was 0.1 percentage points higher than the previous year. According to the Federal Employment Agency (BA), Andrea Nahles stated that there is no sign of a reversal in the job market, noting that the anticipated “spring boost” was only moderate this April.
Despite the minor decline, the labor demand stabilized at a low level, although it recorded a slight decrease overall. In April, 641,000 open positions were reported, marking a reduction of 5,000 compared to the previous year.
In terms of social support, 1.07 million people received unemployment benefits, an increase of 93,000 compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the number of people calculated to be eligible for basic income reached 3.826 million in April, representing a decrease of 125,000 people compared to the preceding period. Overall, 7.0% of the working-age population living in Germany required assistance.
