At least eight people were killed on the Italian island of Ischia when a landslide triggered by heavy rain engulfed several buildings.

Italian Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini noted that the rescue operation is being carried out under difficult conditions.

Earlier, the Italian fire brigade announced on Twitter that the search for missing persons in the landslide in the town of Casamichola is underway.

Firefighters said they pulled a car out of the sea and rescued two passengers.

The authorities appeal to citizens not to leave their homes.

Otherwise, the bad weather is expected to reign in the following days in the Italian state.
