During a debate initiated by SPD parliamentary group leader Matthias Miersch concerning new debts tied to the Iran war, the Union party has once again cautioned against such a financial step. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” in Berlin on Tuesday, CDU parliamentary manager Steffen Bilger stated that incurring new debt would be a “bad sign” arguing that doing so would make the party’s political stance seem unoriginal during these challenging times. Bilger added that making the coalition run up massive debts-a trend not seen in a long time-would not solve problems. Instead, he warned that it would only make the future more difficult. The CDU official emphasized that the focus must shift toward stimulating the economy, implementing necessary reforms, and achieving savings within the budget.
