Berlin’s Cultural Senator, Sarah Wedl-Wilson (non-partisan), has decided to resign due to the controversial allocation of funding for anti-semitism initiatives. The non-partisan politician announced on Friday that she had requested her dismissal from the Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU). Earlier, the Berlin State Audit Office assessed that the funding for a number of projects, amounting to millions, was unlawful. In a report concerning funding practices, the approach taken by the culture administration was criticized as “arbitrary” and “clearly illegal”.
