Exiled Iranian Politician Targeted with Tomato During Berlin Visit

Iranian exile politician Reza Pahlavi was reportedly pelted with a tomato during his visit to Berlin on Thursday. According to police, a man was apprehended following the incident. Prior to the assault, Pahlavi had addressed questions from members of the capital’s press corps during a federal press conference.

Pahlavi is currently in Berlin for political discussions, holding meetings with members of the Bundestag. However, the federal government indicated that meetings with high-ranking government officials are not scheduled.

Pahlavi’s visit, who was overthrown in 1979, has drawn accompanying demonstrations in the capital. Police sources reported a large deployment of up to 800 officers to manage multiple public gatherings in the Mitte district. While numerous supporters of Pahlavi are expected, there are also announced demonstrations from his opponents.
