Speaking before a meeting with his EU colleagues in Luxembourg on Tuesday, the CDU politician characterized the recent Hungarian elections as a “real sigh of relief”. He noted that there is now justifiable hope for Ukraine. Wadephul stated that Germany anticipates that Budapest will interpret the election results as a mandate for unity, emphasizing that the Hungarian people desire a cohesive Europe and stand solidarily with Ukraine, which is defending not only Ukraine but also the region’s security and freedom. The minister insisted that the unusual roadblocks impeding much-needed support for Ukraine must be lifted immediately. He stressed that the release of the 90-billion-euro credit is necessary quickly and should not await any changes in government. Furthermore, Wadephul called upon all European Union member states to significantly increase their bilateral support for Ukraine, stating that the crisis affects every aspect of the nation.
