German Hospitality Sales Plateau in February Stagnating Growth

According to preliminary figures released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), revenues in the German hospitality sector remained unchanged in real terms (price-adjusted) compared to the previous month in February 2026 (0.0 percent). However, in nominal terms (unadjusted for price changes), the revenue increased by 0.4 percent. When compared to the previous year’s month, February 2025, revenues saw a real decline of 4.6 percent, while they nevertheless rose by 2.3 percent in nominal terms.

Looking at the previous month, January 2026, the hospitality sector experienced a real drop of 4.3 percent compared to December 2025 (the preliminary figure was a decline of 3.9 percent). Furthermore, nominal revenue for January 2026 fell by 0.5 percent compared to December 2025 (down from a preliminary figure of 0.0 percent).

Within the sector, hotels and other accommodation providers reported a real revenue increase of 2.4 percent and a nominal increase of 2.6 percent in February 2026, compared to January 2026. In year-on-year comparisons, revenue fell by 0.3 percent in real terms but increased by 4.1 percent in nominal terms compared to February 2025.

Meanwhile, the catering industry saw its revenue decline by 1.1 percent in real terms and 1.2 percent in nominal terms when compared to January 2026. Comparing it to February 2025, the catering sector reported a real decline of 6.2 percent, yet its revenue increased by 1.7 percent nominally, according to the federal office.
