American stock exchanges posted gains on Thursday. By the close in New York, the Dow Jones showed a gain of 0.2 percent, reaching 48,579 points. A little earlier, the broader S&P 500 was up 0.3 percent, valued at approximately 7,041 points, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 calculated around 26,330 points, marking a 0.5 percent increase.
Market participants appeared cautiously relieved on Thursday following a ceasefire announcement between Israel and Lebanon by US President Donald Trump. Trump also expressed optimism regarding Iran, indicating that discussions included extending the truce with the regime and opening the Strait of Hormuz.
The European common currency was slightly weaker on Thursday evening; the euro cost 1.1782 US dollars, and consequently, one dollar was valued at 0.8488 euros.
The price of gold rose modestly, reaching $4,794 per fine ounce by the end of the day (+0.1 percent). This equates to a price of 130.81 euros per gram.
Crude oil prices rose sharply: A barrel of Brent crude from the North Sea cost $98.15 on Thursday evening around 10 PM German time, representing a 3.4 percent increase from the close of the previous trading day.
