Lufthansa Cuts Cityline Amid Strike Wave Layoffs Planned

Facing widespread strikes, the management of the Lufthansa Group has taken a decisive measure. According to an internal memo reported by the Handelsblatt (Friday edition), the operations of Lufthansa Cityline are suspended immediately. Following this closure, nearly all employees will be placed on temporary leave, with only a few exceptions. The communication states, “Following comprehensive review, we had to make the decision to temporarily suspend Cityline flight operations until further notice”. This means that no flights will run for the time being. Furthermore, “all affected crew members in the cockpit and cabin will be placed on temporary leave, with few exceptions”. This action stems from a decision by the core Lufthansa brand to cease using Cityline’s services due to the continuous strikes. Cityline was responsible for feeder flights, such as those connecting to Frankfurt and Munich. A Lufthansa spokesperson confirmed this information when approached for comment.
