Three individuals suspected of being members of the “Islamic State” terror militia have been arrested in Chemnitz, Leipzig, and Plauen, according to the State Criminal Police Office on Thursday morning. The accused, who are Iraqi citizens aged 26, 40, and 43, are charged with membership in a foreign terrorist organization.
The two older men were apprehended on Wednesday in Chemnitz and Leipzig by the Police Center for Counterterrorism (PTAZ) after a court in Dresden issued arrest warrants. During searches of their residences, authorities confiscated ten mobile phones, two laptops, two tablets, and various storage media. These men are accused of having been active as fighters for the IS between 2014 and 2016 and of receiving money for their participation.
The 26-year-old was detained in Plauen on March 24th, following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Dresden Regional Court. Technical devices were also confiscated during his investigation. He faces accusations of serving as an IS fighter between January 2016 and May 2017. Investigations by the Central Agency for Extremism Saxony, particularly the analysis of the seized data, are ongoing.
