The Green Party has voiced strong criticism regarding the austerity plans put forward by Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU). Janosch Dahmen, the Greens’ spokesperson on health policy in the Bundestag, told “Der Spiegel” that the proposed measures, which appeared to be hastily assembled, are unbalanced and deeply disappointing. Dahmen added that Minister Warken appears to be shifting the burden of stabilization disproportionately onto employees and employers, all while seeming unwilling to confront the influence of powerful lobbying groups regarding expenditures. The Green politician criticized that this approach will not stabilize the system, but rather increase uncertainty across the country. According to Dahmen, if Warken were to consistently implement the recommendations of her own experts, contributions could drop by more than two percentage points by 2027. “This would represent a crucial financial relief for over 75 million statutory insured persons in this country, especially during times of crisis” he stated.
