Free Sees Government Measures As Starting Point For Major Reforms

Following the government coalition’s relief packages, further extensive reforms are anticipated, according to Chancellor’s Minister Thorsten Frei (CDU). Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” on Tuesday, Frei stated that the recent measures are merely a starting point for ongoing, long-term developments, indicating that “we now have a whole series of reform initiatives ahead of us”.

Frei highlighted a “huge need for reform” in Germany, pointing specifically to areas such as the health and nursing care insurance systems or the budget for the coming year. He noted that this need is “intensified by a worsening foreign policy situation”. According to the Chancellor’s Minister, this elevates the “pressure to act in Germany, and that is the framework within which we are currently operating”. He concluded by saying, “It remains challenging because the situation is challenging”.

When asked whether the relief measures for citizens had strengthened or weakened Economy Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU), Frei responded by affirming, “Katherina Reiche is a strong economy minister”.
