German Domestic Tourism Surges Reaching 27 Million Overnights in February 2026

In February 2026, Germany’s accommodation providers recorded 27.7 million overnight stays from both domestic and international visitors. According to preliminary figures released on Monday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this represents an increase of 3.3 percent compared to February 2025. Domestically, the number of overnight stays rose by 3.4 percent to 22.6 million. Internationally, the figure grew by 2.5 percent, reaching 5.1 million. Looking at the period from January to February 2026, accommodation providers recorded a total of 53.2 million overnight stays. This total is 2.2 percent higher than the same period last year, although it remains 6.3 percent below the record figure of 56.8 million stays recorded during the same period in 2020. For the January-February period, domestic overnight stays increased by 2.3 percent compared to January-February 2025, reaching 43.8 million. The number of international stays increased by 1.5 percent to 9.4 million.
