Iran Conflict Expected to Keep Electricity And Gas Prices High Says Eon

Filip Thon, the head of Eon Energy Germany responsible for the company’s domestic distribution business, stated that the energy conglomerate expects the electricity and gas prices to remain affected by the ongoing conflict with Iran. He warned that the general price level experienced before the conflict is unlikely to return quickly.

Thon highlighted the significant increases observed in energy purchase markets. During the current year, energy trading prices showed substantial rises, with gas increasing by 75% and electricity prices climbing by 35%. Looking ahead to the next year, the wholesale market forecasts suggest even steeper rises: gas wholesale prices are projected to increase by 60%, while electricity wholesale prices are expected to increase by 20%.

While the manager clarified that these short-term fluctuations cannot be passed directly onto the tariffs for end customers, he emphasized that the overall upward trend in energy costs is clearly established.
