German Government Skeptical Of Russia's Announced Ukraine Ceasefire

The German government responded to Russia’s announced 32-hour ceasefire with caution. At the German news agency dts on Friday, deputy government spokesperson Sebastian Hille stated, “We have taken note of it”. When asked whether he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claims that the fighting would cease over the weekend, Hille replied, “Belief is such an average good category in politics”. However, the spokesperson added that “naturally, every hour the weapons are quiet is a good hour”. President Putin had announced the 32-hour ceasefire for the Orthodox Easter period during the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. This pause is scheduled to last from 4:00 PM on April 11th until the end of April 12th. Notably, Putin also called for a ceasefire during Easter last year, after which both Russia and Ukraine accused each other of violating the truce.
