Gasoline Price Task Force Awaits Key Findings Next Week

The task force established by the coalition parties to provide relief regarding fuel prices will only receive the requested audit results from the federal ministries starting next week. According to the “Rheinische Post” citing sources within the coalition, the federal government plans to first monitor the ongoing situation in the Persian Gulf and incorporate those developments into its review. It was stated that waiting for further changes in energy prices is necessary to gain a realistic picture. Earlier, the task force had asked the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economics to examine the effectiveness and costs of several measures by this Friday. These proposals included a temporary increase in the commuter allowance, a mobility bonus, the reduction of electricity tax for all citizens, adjustments to the vehicle tax, a price cap, and a windfall tax on the profits of oil corporations. However, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) dampened expectations for swift action on Thursday.
