Putin Halts Fighting for Orthodox Easter Pause in Ukraine War

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a 32-hour ceasefire for the Orthodox Easter period in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to the state Russian news agency Tass on Thursday. The ceasefire is scheduled to last from 4:00 PM on April 11th until the end of April 12th. Russian forces are reportedly ordered to halt hostilities but remain ready to stop any hostile aggression. Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had also called for a truce over the holidays. Last year, Putin also declared a ceasefire for Easter. Subsequently, Russia and Ukraine each accused the other of violating the cessation of hostilities.
