Furthermore, the seasonally adjusted truck toll mileage index saw a decline of 0.6 percent when compared to March of the previous year, according to the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) and the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Thursday. The authorities believe that subway truck traffic volume on highways offers early indications regarding the current state of the industrial economy. Statisticians noted that there is a clear correlation between the truck toll mileage index and various indexes measuring economic activity, particularly the production index for the manufacturing sector, because economic activity both generates and requires transportation services.
