German Deputy Chairman Warns of Imminent Killing Wave in Iran

Bundestag Deputy President Omid Nouripour (The Greens) reacted to the announced ceasefire in Iran with a sober assessment. Speaking to the Funke media group’s newspapers in Tehran, the Green politician, who was born there, stated, “The current outcome is merely a pause, not stability or even an improvement in the situation”. He further asserted, “The US government has underestimated two things: the regime’s decades of preparation for this scenario, and the regime’s ideological will, to the point of total collapse if necessary”.

Nouripour foresees a bleak future for the Iranian people. “The worst thing threatens the people in Iran right now: being left alone in a bombed-out country with this murderous regime” he said.

According to Nouripour, the population currently lacks the strength for protests, but this situation could change rapidly. He anticipates a massive wave of repression from the regime, noting, “They will try to silence all undesirable voices by accusing them of treason and espionage. A high rate of executions is already visible in the developing situation”.

The Green politician concluded by saying it remains completely unclear whether peace is achievable. “Above all, one must not forget that the regime in Iran sees itself as the winner of the conflict thus far, simply because it has managed to survive. This does not make the prospects for its desire for peace any brighter”.
