Greens Demand More Action From Defense Minister Pistorius Amid Middle East Tensions

Following the announcement by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) aiming to provide immediate clarity regarding the approval requirements for long international trips for militarily capable men, the Green Party is calling for further actions from the minister’s ministry. According to the expert from the Bundestag faction, Sara Nanni, speaking to the “Rheinische Post” (Thursday edition), a minister who intends to discuss major issues with the public must ensure that the internal workings of his own ministry are functioning effectively. Nanni added that the Middle East is currently experiencing unprecedented developments with major ramifications for Germany’s core interests. However, she pointed out that the German defense policy debate remains stalled because of a regulation within the military service modernization law, as the ministry was unable to establish legal clarity on a regulatory ordinance for four months. Nanni concluded by advising Pistorius that he must be careful not to lose sight of the global situation.
