According to preliminary figures released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Wednesday, the service sector in Germany posted revenue growth of 1.7% in real terms and 1.9% in nominal terms for January 2026, comparing this to December 2025. When looking at the year-over-year comparison to January 2025, revenue increased by 1.6% in real terms and 3.2% in nominal terms.
Among the specific sectors, the largest real revenue increase compared to the previous month came from Information and Communication, which grew by 3.6%. This was followed by the Transport and Storage sector, which reported a rise of 2.4%. Other economic services, such as renting movable goods and employment brokerage, saw their revenues increase by 1.6%, while the real estate and housing sector showed a rise of 1.3%. Growth was more moderate for freelance, scientific, and technical services, with an increase of 0.7%.
