Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that six people were killed and 53 were injured in the explosion in Istanbul’s Taksim Square.
The explosion is reported to have occurred today at 16:20 according to local time, in this case the firefighters, police and medical teams were mobilized.
The explosion caused a lot of noise, and the police teams went to the scene and took security measures on the street.
Images distributed on social networks have shown in different angles the explosion on Sunday, where there was a crowd of people.
Based on initial information from Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya, Erdogan said the explosion could be an act of terrorism.
“Turkey will not bow to terrorism. We will identify all those responsible for the attack,” Erdogan said.
“Our country must be sure that the perpetrators of the incident on Istiklal Street will be punished as they deserve,” he added.
