On Wednesday, the Chancellor stated that efforts must now be focused on negotiating a permanent end to the conflict in the coming days, emphasizing that this can only be achieved through diplomatic channels. Merz indicated that these ongoing negotiations aim to protect the civilian population of Iran and ensure regional stability, adding that they could prevent a severe global energy crisis. He affirmed that the German government supports these diplomatic efforts, maintaining close consultation with the United States and other partners. Furthermore, the Chancellor added that Germany will contribute in an appropriate manner to guaranteeing free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
