Kubicki Plans FDP Overhaul Building New Female Leadership

Wolfgang Kubicki, the FDP’s vice chairman and presidential candidate, has announced a political reset for his party, establishing key personnel and ideological directions. Speaking on the POLITICO Berlin Playbook podcast, he stated, “I am not the future of the FDP, but I want to ensure that the FDP has a future at all”. Kubicki emphasized the need for new, and notably female, faces within the party leadership. Besides naming Martin Hagen as the next general secretary, he nominated Linda Teuteberg, Susanne Seehofer, Katja Suding, and Maria Westphal, suggesting they should become part of his executive committee. He stressed that the federal board must adopt a more outward-facing approach, asserting, “We must convince voters”. On policy matters, Kubicki proposed repealing Section 188 of the German Criminal Code regarding insulting politicians, calling it a provision that “annoys people more than it helps”. Concurrently, he called for a reduction in state intervention, arguing that “prosperity is earned in the economy and not through the state”-a cost the party can no longer afford. When asked about his own tenure, Kubicki remained non-committal, admitting, “I don’t know if I will still be the head of the FDP in three years”.
