Three Dead After Tree Fall Easter Search Near Flensburg

A fatal incident occurred on Easter Sunday in a forest area in the municipality of Mittelangeln, near Flensburg, when a large tree fell. The local police reported that a tree, estimated to be about 30 meters high, crashed onto a gathering of approximately 50 people who were at the location searching for Easter eggs.

Of the people caught under the fallen tree, four were trapped. Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene: a 16-year-old and a 21-year-old. Sadly, the 10-month-old daughter of the 21-year-old later succumbed to her critical injuries at a hospital in Kiel. Additionally, an 18-year-old was airlifted with severe injuries to a hospital in Heide, while other members of the group sustained minor injuries. The gathering consisted of residents and caregivers from a nearby residential facility.

Emergency responders were supported by crisis chaplains who provided care to those affected at the site. Investigators currently suspect strong wind gusts as the cause of the tree fall, and the police investigation into the exact circumstances remains ongoing.
