Police Shoot Man During Chase in Saarbrücken

During a pursuit in Saarbrücken shortly before Easter Sunday, police shot and fatally wounded a man. According to reports citing the public prosecutor’s office, the incident took place around 1 AM. The situation began when a vehicle attempted to evade a police check. When the car eventually entered a dead end, an alleged injury to a police officer occurred while the driver attempted to turn the vehicle around. Subsequently, the police fired multiple shots at the fleeing car, resulting in the death of the 22-year-old driver. Additionally, the report states that the vehicle was carrying two other individuals: a 23-year-old front passenger and a 19-year-old in the backseat. The 19-year-old was also reportedly injured by the gunfire. Initial information was not provided regarding the extent of the injuries sustained by the 19-year-old or the police officer. Investigations are currently underway to determine the background of the escape and the fatal police shooting.
