A confrontation occurred on Saturday at a campaign stand belonging to the AfD in Berlin, following the party’s own statements. According to accounts, at approximately 11:45 a.m., an unidentified person first dumped a can of cola over an information stand on Wilmersdorfer Straße. When the Berlin Member of Parliament, Marc Vallendar, attempted to stop him, Vallendar received a punch to his face.
The unidentified man then reportedly fled the scene. An AfD statement from Saturday afternoon noted that fellow party members and curious witnesses who rushed to the scene were able to pursue him for a time but could not apprehend him. However, the statement also mentioned that “conclusive image material” is available, suggesting that a photo search could be fruitful.
Vallendar has stated that he has filed a criminal complaint for bodily harm with the police. The long-time parliamentarian, who has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives since 2016, commented that such acts of violence are intended to sabotage the political process, but he stated that this effort will fail. He added that this failure is due to the increasing number of citizens who recognize the danger that the radicalized political left poses to the community.
