The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) has warned about efforts by Iran to rebuild capacities destabilized during the conflict with Israel and the United States, specifically by utilizing illegal exports from Germany. According to the federal office, the “Welt am Sonntag” it is expected that if the current leadership remains in power, the repair and reconstruction of facilities will be driven by the illicit procurement of cutting-edge technologies from Europe and Germany.
Germany, due to its status as a high-technology hub, is currently a focus of Iranian procurement activities. The agency noted that manufacturers and suppliers of dual-use goods are particularly at risk of becoming entangled in transactions relevant to proliferation. Proliferation, in this context, refers to efforts aimed at developing weapons of mass destruction.
Furthermore, the German intelligence service indicated that key items fueling Iran’s procurement efforts include high-technology goods, CNC machines, epoxy resins, small (explosion-resistant) motors, vacuum pumps, and carbon fibers. Generally speaking, Iran remains dependent on dual-use goods sourced from Germany.
