IFALPA Slams Lufthansa Over Termination of Cockpit Alliance Waiver Deal

The International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) has criticized Lufthansa for terminating the exemption agreement with the Association Cockpit. In a letter addressed to Lufthansa chief Carsten Spohr, IFALPA President Ron Hay expressed concerns about the impact on the pilots’ safety-related work.

Andreas Pinheiro, president of the Association Cockpit, said that the pilots’ commitment to Lufthansa’s flight safety has been unilaterally ended. “With the termination, Lufthansa is consciously accepting that work in the area of flight safety will be compromised”.

The Association Cockpit functions as both a union and a professional body. IFALPA, founded in 1948, represents more than 160,000 pilots worldwide and works to promote global flight‑safety standards.
