Elisabeth Kaiser, the federal government’s Eastern Commissioner, reassured that the situation at the PCK refinery in Schwedt is secure as of Tuesday. During her visit she noted that the government has placed the German Rosneft subsidiary and its share of the refinery under the trustee management of the Federal Network Agency, guaranteeing the site as the key supplier of petroleum products for eastern Germany and protecting thousands of jobs. She also said the risk from sanctions against Russia is now eliminated, ensuring long‑term oil supplies, payment processing, and smooth operation of the refinery.
Kaiser highlighted that Schwedt exemplifies the challenges and opportunities involved in transforming the region into a sustainable, future‑proof industrial hub. “By visiting the PCK refinery, I can get a full picture of how this transformation is gaining momentum on site” she explained. The focus for the refinery is a shift toward climate‑neutral production, supported by government funding. For example, a hydrogen project aimed at producing “green” kerosene in Schwedt is backed by €245 million in federal support, which will safeguard existing jobs and open new industrial prospects for the area.
Kaiser pledged to continue closely monitoring these processes, underscoring her commitment to the region’s development.
