Left Party Slams One‑Sided Health Insurance Reform as Patient Burden

The Left party views the proposals from the experts’ commission on stabilising health insurers as placing an unequal burden on patients. Floor leader Sören Pellmann told the T‑Online portal that the measures contain “many bitter pills, a cut‑back programme for insured people”.

Pellmann added that the Health Minister still stresses that the reforms must not be one‑sided, yet the move to exit the family insurance scheme, the reduction of subsidies for dental prostheses and higher co‑payments are “absolutely one‑sided and affect only the insured”. He argues that financing should be put on “solid footing” by ensuring that those with strong financial capacity-especially high‑income earners-make a fairer contribution. Pellmann criticises the fact that wealthy individuals contribute a smaller proportion of their income than average earners, and notes that landlords and large investors are currently not required to contribute.
