Kaddor Dismisses Future for Non‑Integrated Syrians Ahead of President Al‑Sarra's Visit

Lamya Kaddor, a Green party member of the German Bundestag, says she sees no long‑term future for Syrians in Germany who do not integrate. She told the news magazine “Focus” that those who actively oppose the country, refuse to work, and do not speak German “should not stay here”. Kaddor made this a specific appeal to Syrians who still have not arrived in Germany, adding that anyone who completely rejects integration “naturally has no perspective in Germany”.

At the same time, Kaddor believes that most Syrians will unlikely return to their homeland. “A large share of those who came to Germany ten years ago now have children born here. Some arrived as children or teenagers” she explained. Those Syrians would not even know much of their country of origin. “Is it really in Germany’s interest to send back people who have already grown roots here?” she asked.

Kaddor welcomes the visit of the controversial regime head, President Ahmed al‑Scharaa, but stresses that the agenda must be clear about what topics should be addressed. She warned that the Syrian president should not be given a red carpet. She urged Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) to bring up the situation of Christians, Druze, Kurds and Alawites in Syria.

Al‑Scharaa is expected to arrive in Berlin on Monday. Meetings with President Frank‑Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Merz are planned, and the Syrian leader will also participate in a German‑Syrian business roundtable with companies.
