The German industry group Fuels and Energy reports that, at present, no fuel shortages seem imminent. According to the association’s spokesperson, the “Rheinische Post” (Thursday edition) noted that “there are currently no looming supply constraints for gasoline, diesel or heating oil in Europe, and therefore not in Germany”.
He cautioned that if the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz does not ease soon, the global competition for the remaining supply of crude oil and petroleum products could intensify. Under those circumstances, Europe’s, and consequently Germany’s, supply might be affected.
The spokesperson said that Economy Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) was “right to warn” about the potential risks. “Our aim remains to keep Germany’s supply secure” he added.
Fuels and Energy represents refineries and retail stations across Germany.
