Oil Crisis CDA Proposes Raising Mileage Allowance to 38 Cents to Ease Workers

The Christian Democratic Workers Association (CDA) is calling for an increase to the mileage allowance.

“My proposal is to relieve employees by raising the mileage rate for business trips in a private car to 38 cents per kilometer” said CDA chairman Dennis Radtke in a weekend edition of the “Rheinische Post”. He added that the association should also enable a tax‑free mobility allowance that is targeted, non‑bureaucratic, and practical.

Radtke rejects car‑free Sundays as a fuel‑saving measure. “Car‑free Sundays miss the mark for commuters right at the heart of the issue. The state should not offer tips on savings and sacrifice, but should demonstrate decisive action” he said.

“Given the geopolitical situation, fuel prices are bound to rise. That means I will enforce the new cartel law strictly and ensure targeted relief” the CDA leader concluded.
