German Housing Minister Hubertz Acknowledges Federal Role in Nationwide Dissatisfaction

Verena Hubertz, Germany’s Federal Minister for Housing, acknowledged that the federal government shares responsibility for the country’s growing unease. Speaking to RTL and ntv on Thursday, she stressed that all federal politicians must be taken to account when people feel that life is becoming unaffordable. “Housing is certainly part of the problem” she said.

Hubertz did not explicitly tie the situation to recent electoral setbacks, such as losses in Rhineland‑Palatin and other states, remarking, “I’m not ready to go that far”.

In response, the SPD intends to counteract the trend. Hubertz explained that people across the nation are worried, and that housing remains one of the most pressing challenges of our time. “We must help make things better again” she added.
