Federal Construction Minister Verena Hubertz (SPD) confirmed that the planned Building‑Type E law aimed at cutting construction costs is still slated for approval this year. “We will get it done this year” Hubertz told RTL and ntv on Thursday.
The objective is to enable faster and cheaper building. “We must move away from these standards. Not every gadget is necessary” she added. The law is intended to be a central lever for making housing affordable again.
Hubertz did not give a specific date, but referenced the ongoing legislative process. “The law has to be good” she said, noting that the draft will be coordinated with industry associations and experts. “As soon as possible – but we’re definitely not aiming at Christmas”.
She also said that streamlining procedures could further cut costs. “If you can build faster, you save a lot of money” the SPD politician explained.
